Loum Library Project

Loum Library Project

The team at CELA is currently raising donations for a library project to help combat illiteracy in Loum.

Giving children access to books

A library plays an important role in the spread of knowledge. The availability of information resources can often mean the difference between poverty and prosperity, particularly in underdeveloped African communities.

We are raising money to make a difference and further our cause by implementing a library in the city of Loum in Cameroon.

Loum is an underdeveloped rural town located in the Littoral province of Cameroon with a population of 600 000 people.

Young Students under 15 and the general public over 65 in the area have been reported in recent successive UNESCO reports as having a lack of literacy. This finding is also substantiated by the fact there is no library in Loum.

The link between access to libraries and a good level of literacy and reading has long been proven. But for residents of Loum, the benefits that public libraries offer remain a dream.

To meet the new challenge, we have set up this campaign with a goal of £60,000.

With your help, CELA can reach this goal and continue the work we have set out to do in this campaign.

Please help if you can. Every donation makes a difference.

Building resilient communities

The work we do at CELA, helps to build resilient communities in Cameroon, England and Wales. This means creating communities that have access to the resources needed to respond flexibility to changes such as drought or new technology.
